Career Mode in FIFA 16 plays more prominently

For the worldwide audience, statement choices embody Arabic, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, resident Spanish, Japanese, Polish, Dutch and an all-new Russian statement team. These square measure on the market across all platforms Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation three, PlayStation four and laptop. Achieve greatness on the pitch with the legends of the past and also the stars of today! Just when we thought the ball physics couldn’t get any better, the game developers are making it even more lifelike. In looking more at exactly how the ball connects with the foot, the number of different types of shots that you can take increase.

To name just a few, there are straight or driven shots, laces shots that are in-swinging, laces shots that are out-swinging, and still, of course, finesse shots. Problems with the goalkeepers that came up have been addressed and what is left is supposed to be a sort of balance between the shooter and the goalie that is fair and real. A one-on-one with the keeper in the box isn’t always a given goal in real football, so why should it be in FIFA 16? I won’t spend too much time talking about the presentation at this point, but I do want to say I think the faces look much improved this year in close-ups. FIFA’s camera view simply gives it almost no shot of being a truly “wow” game in the graphics department during gameplay, but during those close-ups, the game does impress quite a bit.

That being said, the audio in the stadiums is still the real presentational star of the game. The crowds seem somewhat alive from a visual perspective, but again, perhaps based on the camera view you don’t feel like the crowds are really alive from a visual standpoint, just from an audio one. One particular occasion we managed to get a bit of a Bundesliga theme going with Lewandowski, Reus and Kagawa creating some nice link potential. But then on literally our last pick Gareth Bale popped up. Putting him in the team completely destroyed our chemistry on that side of the pitch, but we did it anyway because he was better than what we had. And that’s the joy of FUT 16 Draft, you never know what’s coming next, and as a result you'll end up using player combinations and formations you never would have tried before.

As well as FUT Draft there have been a whole host of other changes across Ultimate Team which have centered on community feedback, and making the mode easier to navigate than ever before. New tackling mechanics and animations. All new slide, standing, and fake tackles make going in for the ball responsive, rewarding, and fun. Stay in possession with patient build-up play or ping clinical passes through space to start an attack. Authentic crosses let you find teammates with greater accuracy. Attacking players run onto and attack the ball with intent, making defenses scramble as crosses are played behind the back line with vicious intent. (I bet crosses are OP as hell when the game is first released and get patched within the first 2 months to become useless once again)

Immediately, a series of red lines snake out to the keeper from all of his teammates, still in mid-field. They’re furious. It’s barely seconds into the game, and their own keeper’s lousy hands resulted in an own goal. It’s an extreme example, but it demonstrates a point. Players also just handle more like human beings. The real-life dominant foot (left/right) of an individual matters when it comes to dribbling the ball. They’ll stutter their steps to prepare for an incoming pass, then position themselves to protect it from the opposing team. The play is pure FIFA, same as it ever was, but even after just a few minutes of playing, it’s evident how much smoother everything is.

Beyond that, dribbling feels a bit harder overall in terms of just trying to go around people. And because the midfield feels a bit more compact, dribbling in tight spaces feels like it will be more of a challenge and yet a bigger deal to pull off. Small, finite movements will perhaps be a big difference maker this year -- rather than just relying on your ability to quickly speed burst through all the trouble in the midfield. Some of that stuff we've perhaps seen or heard before, but normally it's in isolation or the odd comment here and there. Now Career Mode feels like it remembers, and plays more prominently on those key story lines as they develop and it does so almost seamlessly. Story of the Season also brings with it a suite of new overlays for transfer news to really enforce the things Tyler and Smith debate. This stuff is subtle, without doubt, but it's great to see EA continue to push the envelope in terms of overall immersion of the Career Mode experience.
