When World of Warcraft Classic arrives in the summer, how will player-versus-player combat work? Just like it did when the original game launched, apparently. Blizzard has outlined a gradual introduction for PvP fights that will mimic the initial rollout. To start, there will be no kill tracking or reward system -- if you take down other players, it's mostly for the thrill of it. You'll have to wait for a second phase before an honor system and rank rewards kick in.
Phase three of Classic will bring in the Alterac Valley and Warsong Gulch battlegrounds and their associated vendors, although not all of their items will be available right away: The Spell Penetration trinkets from Warsong Gulch weren't added to WoW until the 1.9 patch, for instance, so they probably won't appear in Classic until phase five. Arathi Basin will appear in phase four, and phase six will see the arrival of the world PvP objectives in Silithus and Eastern Plaguelands. World of Warcraft Classic still doesn't have a release date, but here's the quick-and-dirty rundown of the PvP content release schedule, relative to the planned update phases.
Player-versus-player details were notably missing from the update, and for good reason – Blizzard was still evaluating options regarding PvP rewards as they changed over time with the original release.
There are also a number of scheduled public stress tests that will be happening before launch, set to commence June 19 to June 20 and July 18 to July 19. Character creation will start early on August 13, so those with an active subscription can create and reserve up to three characters per account. Blizzard hasn’t explicitly stated whether players will have to buy WoW Classic up front in order to play, but it has said that you won’t require a separate subscription to play it. Those who already subscribe to WoW will have WoW Classic included in the price of their subscription. Those who don’t actively play WoW will have to pay the usual $15 USD a month to play it.
